January 28, 2019 – Theresa, John, and the Inquisition – 16th Century

“Theresa, John, and the Inquisition – 16th Century” is the topic this month for the ongoing monthly gathering with Rev. Anne Forsberg, M.A. Monday, January 28, 2019, 7-9 pm in the Fireside Room.

Spain produced two of the church’s greatest mystics – Theresa of Avila and John of the Cross. They left two very important works: The Dark Night of the Soul, and The Interior Castle. The century also witnessed the full dark shadows of the Inquisition, shadows which threatened both Theresa and John. The 16th century Spanish Catholicism is a fascinating phenomenon unto itself, especially with its encounters with both Jews and Muslims. Come, listen and share.
